What a channel manager does
If a property is listed on several booking platforms at once, a channel manager keeps them synchronized: when a reservation comes in on one channel, availability updates everywhere else automatically, preventing double bookings. Many channel managers also let hosts update rates across all channels at once.
Channel manager vs. PMS
The terms overlap in practice, but a channel manager focuses specifically on distribution and calendar sync, while a full property management system (PMS) typically bundles channel management with broader operational tools — guest messaging, task management, financial reporting, and more. Some platforms function as both.
Where guest compliance fits in
A channel manager’s job is distribution and availability — it isn’t typically built to handle guest registration, UbyPort reporting, or Czech-specific compliance requirements like the House Book or accommodation tax. Best Guest connects to your channel manager (via iCal or a direct integration) to read confirmed reservations, then handles the compliance side separately.
